In 1983 a member of Jacksonville Chapel felt inspired to offer fellow instrumentalists the opportunity to play their instruments for services and community outreach. The result was a new concert band in Northern New Jersey founded by horn, trumpet & banjo player Don Amari. As the band grew so did its reach into the local community with as many as 16 performances at nursing homes, other churches, schools and parks in just one season. The band also enabled Jacksonville Chapel to expand its Easter and Christmas celebration events at the same time through as many as 14 performances in two weeks, incorporating up to 50 volunteer players including harps and strings. Since 2006 the band has been led by Stephen P Brown and continues to invite the public into the church environment through an annual concert series, special services, concerts in the community, and its ever-growing loyal following.
All concerts continue to be free. Non-performing volunteers can also participate.
All traditional instrumentalists are welcome to join the band: "If you want to play, you are welcome to play."
Our only request is that players be at least 14 years old (in high school) and can read music fluently...
we do have some instruments available for members to borrow.
